Additional Information

I pride myself on being able to explain complex topics to both patients and their families; going through the medical decision-making process and answering all the questions that arise to help people make informed decisions regarding their care. This style is a direct result of my many years of being an educator in medicine. I have been actively practicing Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine since 2016. I split my time clinical time between two separate facilities in Northern California (Shasta Regional Medical Center (SRMC) and Dignity Health St. Elizabeth's Community Hospital). Being the medial director for SRMC's Wound Center is challenging to bring state of the care in resource poor area. I enthusiastically teach locally and nationally (both workshops and didactic lectures). Furthermore, being a peer reviewer for the Journal Advances in Skin & Wound Care and Wounds Journal is a stellar opportunity to help shape the future of wound care. At both Shasta Regional Medical Center and St. Elizabeth's Community Hospital I coordinate and teach a wound care rotation for medical students and residents. I provide state of the art wound care to a variety of patients who have acute and/or chronic wounds. One of the keys to excellent wound care is a collaborative approach with a multidisciplinary team, which provides the best possible outcomes for this diverse patient population. I utilize evidence-based medicine to provide the optimal outcomes possible for my patients, combining both the science and art of medicine to meet the individual needs of my patients which includes the use of advanced wound care techniques/therapies and hyperbaric oxygen therapy Being an EMS Medical Director I oversee the clinical aspects, quality assurance and education for both Air and Ground ambulance services/agencies. My responsibilities include helping guide the quality improvement activities for the care provided by the flight and ground nurses and paramedics, as well as providing hands-on clinical training (for high risk and low volume skills/procedures) for the critical care nurses and paramedics, and regular chart review. Most importantly I provide immediate live clinical support (consultation) for critical patients under the care of the EMS crews via sat phone if needed. I am boarded in both Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Emergency Medicine. I have been practicing EMS for the last 30 plus years in rural/frontier and metropolitan areas. I have extensive experience in both Ground and Air Medical aspects of EMS. I have proudly served on the State of California EMS Commission (8 years) and was the chairperson his last year. I was honored as the EMS Medical Director of the Year by the State of California. Furthermore, received the EMS Achievement Award from the California Chapter of ACEP (American College of Emergency Medicine). I currently serve as the Medical Director for ground ambulance services and critical care air ambulance agencies. My commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and leadership has been honed over the last 30 years, by serving on the hospital medical staff executive committee culminating as Chief of Staff (5 years commitment) as well as serving as the Medical Director of the Emergency Department. As the Medical Director for Nor-Cal EMS (Government Oversite Agency for five rural Northern California counties EMS activities) and Santa Clara County EMS (for a combined total of 21 years), I was responsible for continuous quality improvement, regulatory discipline for paramedics and EMTs and ensuring providers followed state and county clinical standards. I successfully completed the competitive and prestigious California Health Care Foundation's Fellowship in Health Care Leadership (in association UCSF). This rigorous program expanded and honed my leadership abilities.
